The Grave Mistakes Most Job Candidate Commit in their Cover Letter—which is why they never hear back from hiring managers.

Hint: This comes with a Complete Cover Letter Teardown.

Once you learn these mistakes, you can avoid them, and start getting more +ve responses from your job applications--than you’re currently getting.

How To Craft Mouthwatering Cover Letters Hiring managers Cannot Resist.
Here, I’ll show you the only 3 things to focus on in your cover letter and TRIPLE or even QUADRUPLE the number of interviews you’re getting.

Notice, we’ll not be talking about minutiae tactics we hear every day, like checking your typos, or grammar or making sure your cover letter is ‘formal’.

For most of us, we’ve checked all those things before sending our application letters. Yet, we’re still getting very minimal +ve responses. And often times, we never hear back from the hiring manager.

So, instead of dwelling on the above minutiae tactics, you’ll learn the exact proven psychological techniques, and the tested tactics to employ, so your cover letter becomes irresistible to hiring managers.

•    You’ll get FREE COPY of the Exact Cover Letter Template that got immediate response from a hiring manager.
This cover letter got positive response within 6 hours of submitting. And secured job interview within 2 days!

When I say 'Proven techniques' and 'Tested Tactics', it’s because I’ve proved and tested these techniques and tactics. With busy managers. Yes, even VIPs—and got results.

And the same techniques and tactics have been proven and tested by respected career experts too--and have guaranteed result.

At the end, if you put into action what I’m about to teach you, you can TRIPLE or even QUADRUPLE the number of interviews you’re getting.

You’ll be able to virtually guarantee, that every job application you make, turns into an interview. So I strongly recommend you follow through to the end of this material.

Genuinely in a hurry? And don’t have time to read the whole material?...No worries.
I can send you the FREE COPY of the “ENTIRE COVER LETTER TEMPLATE” so you can read it at your own convenient time.

…and I’ll send you your FREE COPY.

Otherwise stick around, because you’ll learn how to getting hiring managers to immediately respond to your job application letters.

But before we get into all that, I have a confession to make.

Years back after college, I would send countless job application letters to companies I wanted to work with. And for the 99% of those letters, I never heard back from those companies!

It was frustrating.

I paid attention to grammar. I ensured there were no ‘typos’ in the cover letters. I re-read the letters three times, before I sent them.

I made sure the letters were formal—short, concise and to the point.

But even after doing all that, I still got very minimal responses. That kept happening, even after my first job.

I knew something was missing in my application letters. Only that I didn’t know what--because I had done all what “career experts’ tell us to do!

“Make it formal. Avoid typos. Make it short. Check grammar”

Results? NOTHING! Even after doing all those things.

I googled all cover letter templates I could find. Framed my job application letters based on those templates.

…But still, what I got was not satisfying!

Then, I started to believe the FALSE NARRATIVE that the reason I was not getting responses was because there were no jobs.

Turns out that was not TRUE.

“It’s tough job-market out there. You’ve got to keep on trying. Keep sending more. It shall pay!” That is the advice you get from most career advisors.

I have had my share of that crap!

Turns out doing more doesn’t always pay. That was one of the greatest lessons I learnt, then.
I couldn’t buy into that false narrative, and bury my head under the sand anymore!

I mean, how could you rationalize that the reason you’re not getting job interview calls—after submitting your application—is because there are no jobs?

And then, you see someone else who’s just applied for the same position, same company—after you, and are called for interview?

And you know it’s not because they had special connections? Even maddening, you come to realize later, that they were not as qualified as you are!

The problem was with my cover letter. And I decided to find out what it was.

Now, before I tell you what I found, here’s a realization a came into. And this is important. It’s actually my second lesson that I learned.

“Your Cover Letter is one of the most important tools you can use to land your dream job--even if you have ZERO connections.”

Your cover letter is the powerful tool you can use to reach-out to a hiring manager-- whom you couldn’t reach otherwise—and show him why you could be the best candidate to work with.

When it impresses him, that open doors for in-person meeting. And when that happens, what follows is an interview. And that’s what leads to your dream job!

Unfortunately, no one really shows us what goes in a Winning Cover Letter, beyond the grammar and format.

And so, for most of us, we send countless cover letters and never hear back. And the only advice we get is “Keep on trying!”

So, we keep on trying for years and years.

That’s going to stop from today.

A time comes when “Keep on trying” is not worth the effort and the time. And that time came for me!

So, what did I do? I decided to dig deeper to uncover…

…How Top-performers Craft a Mouthwatering Cover Letter
I set out on a journey to research and learn exactly how top performers craft Cover Letters that virtually guarantee positive responses from hiring managers!

I spent time working closely with some hiring managers, to learn what really gets their attention—in a Cover Letter.

I learnt from respected career experts whose materials, advice, techniques and career training courses, generated the results I wanted to be getting with my cover letters.

And today, I’m glad to share with you some of the few things I learnt.

You’ll learn the psychological techniques. The tactical word-for-word framing. And the exact structure and positioning you can use to write a cover letter that gets you job interviews!

Then, I’ll give you the Exact Cover Letter Template you can use to virtually guarantee positive response from hiring managers. The one that got VIP’s response in 6 hours and an interview in 2 days!

Once you crack the code of a Winning Cover Letter, you can use it to get multiple dream job interviews, and drive your career growth.

I will show you how to do it.

I really need this, but I don't have enough time to read entire post. No problem.
...Just click here... "SEND ME MY FREE PDF COPY of INTERVIEW-GENERATING COVER LETTER TEMPLATE"

…and I’ll send you your FREE PDF COPY, so you can read it later.

I tested these techniques just to prove that they work. I wanted to make sure they were not theoretical. So one day, I decided to prove them in one of the toughest situation.

Here’s what I did…

…I Cold-Emailed Cover Letter To VIP. I Got Immediate Response--within 6 Hours!
I decided to send a Cover Letter to a VIP. And that Cover Letter got positive response within 6 hours. The VIP emailed me back--within 6 hours—asking we meet in 2 days!

Of course I wasn’t surprised by the immediate positive response, except a little. This was not the first time!

I knew the techniques were powerful only I didn’t expect them to draw an immediate response in this situation.

(Hint: VIPs are busy people, and rarely response immediately—even to people they know. This VIP didn’t know me. We had ZERO connections! And, there weren’t any job advert of an open position.)

I want you to be able to do the same—get multiple job interviews for virtually any cover letter you send. Even if you have ZERO connections!

The problem with most career advice we get about our cover letter is that, they never go beyond formats, and grammar.

Today, we go beyond grammar and formats!

Really want to learn this, but running out of time? No problem.

So, let’s get started…

The Average Cover Letter Teardown
The best way to improve on something is to first know how good it is presently. And what could be improved.

Once you see the unobvious mistakes or areas needing improvement, then you can take it to the next level. That’s what we’ll do here.

First, we’ll look at an average cover letter. This is the version of the cover letters I used to send when I was getting very minimal responses from hiring mangers.

Just compare to see whether your cover letter looks similar. Then, we’ll tear it apart, and you’ll learn the mistakes and the things that could be improved in this letter, to make it captivating.

So, here’s what an average cover letter looks like. Take a hard look at it!

**********************************************************************************************************
Dear Sir/Madam,

RE: APPLICATION FOR [Insert job position/title] POSITION/JOB
I’m a lady/gentleman aged [insert years], and I’m writing to apply for a [insert job title] position in your company/firm.

I have a degree/diploma in [insert field], with 3 years of experience, and looking to work in a company that does XYZ. I came across your job vacancy advert dated 5th April, 2016, for a [insert the advertised position], which is my area of profession.

I’ve attached my CV and credentials to this cover letter.

I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks in advance.

Yours faithfully,
[Candidate’s Name]

*********************************************************************************************************

Alright. That’s an average cover letter.

Of course there are many different versions or trends of the same, and while they may not use the exact same words, they bear the same theme.

Here’s the theme that runs throughout this cover letter—and in most cover letters I see.

Who the candidate is: Most cover letters open up by telling who the candidate is--personal details, age, gender etc.

•    Why he’s writing: After that, it follows with why this candidate is writing--applying for a job.

•    What he wants & learned about it: After indicating why he’s writing—in the above letter—this candidate talks about the specific job position he wants with this company. And how he came to learn of the open position exists

What the candidate in terms of credentials and experience: In an average cover letter, the candidate mentions her credentials, skill and experience.

•    What the candidate expects/looks forward to: —Of course you look forward to a positive response when you apply for a job. And you can see that in our cover letter.

That’s the general theme of the letter. And it’s not a bad thing.

Now, take a cold look, at your cover letter. And while it may not contain the exact words as in our cover letter above, see whether it contains the above theme.

The above cover letter isn’t bad. Is it?

I mean, it’s formal. No grammatical errors. No typos. Its structure is clear and the purpose is well communicated.

Yes. It’s not bad. But it’s not a good either!

If this kind of a cover letter is submitted to a hiring manager, odds are against ever hearing back from him!

Yes, it may get you a few responses here and there. But who wants a few responses?

You would want to optimize your application letter responses, so you get multiple job interviews queued up for you. That’s what being in control of your career means!

You want to craft a letter that draws positive responses almost all the time. So you’ll never have to worry even if you lost your job today.

Because you know you can always secure another job interview almost immediately.

By the way, if you’ve been sending job application letters—whether hard copy or email—and never hearing back, let me show were they’re nicely kept…

Could these be one of your cover letters?

Could these be one of your job application emails?

It’s no wonder you never heard back!

To ensure that your cover letters/emails don’t end up in either of the above holes-of-doom, let’s do a teardown of the above letter, and uncover the grave mistakes in this letter.

If your cover letter looks similar, pay close attention. If yours is better than this average cover letter, pay close attention too.

…Because you’ll learn a few things you can tweak to dramatically scale the number interview calls you’re currently getting.

Cover Letter Teardown: The Grave Mistakes Most Job Candidates Commit.

Your cover letter should not just be another letter “asking” for a job. No! And that’s for one reason: NOBODY WANTS TO GIVE YOU a JOB.

I wish it were otherwise. But that’s the reality!

Yes, our parents could have got numerous interview calls with the kind of the letter above. But right now, —through experience, --you and I know that’s not the case anymore! And for those of us who have not realized that by now, you will!

The sooner you realize that “nobody wants to give you a job”, and learn how to circumvent that hurdle, the better you’ll be.

Just learning how to overcome that barrier can lead to better the jobs. Shorter time finding your dream job. And is the key to taking back control of your career.

Don’t worry. I’ll show you how to overcome that barrier-in a while.

Right now, I know you might be asking: “But Prince, isn’t that the point of a cover letter? Asking for a job?”

My response? Yes and No.

So, let’s rip this letter apart. And you’ll learn the grave mistakes in it, so you avoid them next time you’re applying for a job.

Pay close attention, as we dissect it—line-by-line, and uncover why this letter will rarely get you interview-calls.

The Line-by-Line Teardown

•    1ST LINE[I’m a lady/gentleman aged [insert years], and I’m writing to apply for a [insert job title] position in your company/firm.]

This line starts with a good introduction, but then, this applicant proceeds to talk about what he WANTS.

He WANTS a job position and THAT’S WHY HE’S WRITING the potential employer.

Bearing in mind that nobody WANTS TO GIVE YOU A JOB, the recipient of the letter has no reason or any incentive to respond to this letter--at that point.

Knowing what you want is a good thing. Because, if you don’t know what you want, how could you ask for it? And saying what you want is something top performers do. If you don’t, nobody will ever give you anything!

But there’s way you do it!

Have you ever heard of someone who went to their manager to ask for a salary raise? And honestly they deserved it. But instead of getting the raise, they got fired?

Happens all the time!

There is an effective way to successfully ask for want you want. And get it. Including a job.

•    2ND LINE:   [I have a degree/diploma in [insert field], with 3 years of experience, and looking to work in a company that does XYZ. I came across your job vacancy advert dated 5th April, 2016, for a [insert the advertised position], which is my area of profession.]
In this line 2, this applicant talks about what he has and what he’s looking for. He also indicates what triggered him to write a letter/email.

But the way he’s framing all that sounds SELFISH.

There is nothing in there; that shows the potential employer what he has to gain. A potential employer can read those lines and wonder, “So what?”

To write a winning Cover Letter, most of the work is done way before you ever write a single word. Put yourself in potential employer’s shoes.

Ask yourself: what do THEY want? What are THEY looking for?
Instead of: what do I want? What AM I looking for?
That small change in MINDSET is what differentiates a winning cover letter, and a losing one!

•    3RD LINE:   [I’ve attached my CV and credentials to this cover letter.]
At this point, the applicant assumes the other party is interested, even though he’s been TALKING ABOUT HIMSELF ALL ALONG.

He tells the potential employer to check more about him (the applicant) on some documents accompanying his letter.

Here’s a key lesson you need to learn: Potential employers will not do things because you asked them to. NO!
They will do things because you triggered/motivated/impressed them to.

This is basic human psychology.

And your job, when writing your cover letter, is to make the potential employer to want to know you more.

And the way you craft the letter. The words you use. The way you frame it, can make the employer want to look at your CV right away!

And the opposite is true.

Here’s the thing. Potential employers receive lots average and boring cover letters—like the one above. And they don’t have time to read such letters--let alone going ahead to check the attached CVs!

If you don’t make them want to check your CV—by crafting a letter that triggers their interest—they won’t.  And your communication with them ends there!

Some don’t even read to the bottom of the letter!

•    4TH LINE[I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks in advance.]
The applicant tells the potential employer he’s looking forward to hearing from him. Just pause and think: do you think the potential employer—based on what’s in this letter—is looking forward to meeting this applicant?

Obviously No!

There’s nothing in this letter that would make the potential employer want to meet this candidate in person—for more discussion and possible interview.

No common interest. No common goal. No common ground. No nothing!
Up to this point, are you seeing why you should never craft such a letter?

Let’s wind this up!

•    5TH LINE:   [Yours faithfully,]

Finally, the applicant signs his name at the bottom of the letter/email …and hit “Send” button, or submits the letter manually—whichever means he uses.

Truth is, he probably will never hear back!

Do you now see what happens behind the scene when we send and average cover letter? When you commit the above mistakes in your cover letter, you’ll wait for years!

Now, based on the mistakes we’ve uncovered in our letter, let me point out the 3 key things you can integrate in your cover letter to make it irresistible.

Key Takeaway # 1: The right MINDSET: Put yourself in potential employer’s shoes
Before you ever sit down and write a single word in your cover letter, the first thing is to have the right mindset.

Think like the potential employer. Put yourself in their shoes.

To put yourself in this frame of mind, here are 3 tactical questions you can ask yourself:

Question # 1: What do THEY want?

Question # 2: What are THEY looking for?

Question # 3: How can I SHOW THEM—in the cover letter--I can OFFER that?

When you sit down to write a cover letter with that mindset, it will not be about YOU, but about THEM.

Key Takeaway # 2: Show VALUE: Talk about the VALUE you can offer THEM 3-Quarters of the letter.
For 3-quarters of the cover letter, show the potential employer the value you can bring on board. Talk about the benefits they might get, if/when they consider working with you.

No one wants to give you a job. But potential employers are willing to work with you, and compensate you fairly, if you can help them solve their challenges. Or achieve their goals.

The way you overcome the “NO ONE WANTS TO GIVE YOU A JOB” barrier, is by showing the value you can the potential employer—in your cover letter.

Key Takeaway # 3: Build a Shared Vision: Share Vision with the potential employer.

People want to work with people whom they share the same vision. And the potential employer is not different.

You don’t have to know the grand vision of the company. NO!

But you can subtly show in your cover letter that you’ve shared interest with the potential employer or in what the company is doing.

That you’ve a common ground and shared interest in a specific area of what the company does—the one you are applying for. And you would be glad to help drive success in that area!

When you focus on the above 3 things, and integrate them in your cover letter, you’ll dramatically improve your response rate!

You give hiring managers a reason to want to meet you.

Now, the big question is: how do you piece all these together, and craft a mouthwatering cover letter hiring managers cannot ignore?

This is the last piece of the puzzle. And I just did it for you!

What No One Teaches Us About Job-opportunities

In the past few months, we’ve talked about writing a WINNING-RESUME. Yes, a RESUME that differentiates you from the rest of job-applicants; and one that gets you interview-calls.

I even showed you how to win unconventionally. Plus, I walked you through how to answer tough interview questions about your salary expectations in a job interview. How to negotiate your salary, plus much more!

Because, it’s one thing to get ‘shortlisted’ for that interview—after crafting a knock-out-punch CV—and it’s another thing to WIN the interview. And I want you to WIN.
Your job as a candidate; is to show the interviewer that he/she was not wrong, in calling you for the interview.

But often times, we are presented by other INVISIBLE SETBACKS; when it comes to getting a job. And truth be told: these INVISIBLE obstacles are HARDER to CONQUER, than mastering how to write a compelling-CV.
Today, let’s talk about some of these invisible barriers--because they are real; yet almost nobody ever talks about them.

The INVISIBLE BARRIERS No One Talks About
Take an ideal situation; where you are ‘perfect’ at crafting an IRRESISTIBLE RESUME. You know how to do ‘strategic info positioning’. You know how to ‘DECODE’ a job-description to uncover the ideal candidate the company is looking for—before you ever start to write your CV.

You know how to use the hiring manager’s language in your CV. And given an opportunity, you can create the “Perfect CV”.

Does that mean you can apply for that job and get that interview-call? YES and NO!
Yes, because you CAN; and NO because you won’t.

How, often do we see job opportunities; and because we’ve been rejected severally; we start second guessing and battling with these invisible scripts in our heads? ... I call them the “What ifs…”

  •  “…What if I have no value to offer? ...What if I don’t have what they are looking for?”
  •  “…What if there are so many job-candidates applying for this position? What are my chances?”
  • “…What if there are other more experienced candidates than myself?”
  • “…I only have a diploma! And I am sure; there are other job-candidates with degrees and graduates who have applied for this same position! What if they prefer them to me!”
  • “…I have done this application thing before…and haven’t succeeded. Besides, before this job-advert gets to the public; the job-position is usually filled. They’re just doing it for formality purposes?”

…And then we end up picking one of these two options:
We either…

  • Decide NOT to apply completely. Because, what’s the point?...They are never going to take me!
  • Go ahead and apply; but we DON’T SHOW our best. Why? Because we think we are not going to qualify anyway!
So, what follows is, we either miss the chance—by not applying. Or we never get the interview-call even after applying. Not because we couldn’t; but because we didn’t do all we could; to show WHY we are the right candidate.

Yet, when you look beneath the hood; you will notice this: while some of the above invisible scripts may seem technically correct; they are not the practical reasons, why we miss most job opportunities. They are psychological barriers that stall us; from earning our way into the interview room—sabotaging our careers.

I shall show you how to conquer most of those in the upcoming materials. And by the way, that’s what makes my 'THE IRRESISTIBLE RESUME' course different from any other CV-Writing course.

TIR course is not a bunch of mere THEORETICAL Information. We dive deep into how to conquer those “…What ifs”; and any other psychological barriers. And we do this way before we ever get into writing the RESUME itself.

I even show you how to uncover your own professional value—which you DIDN’T KNOW you had--to get hiring managers’ attention.

Why? Because writing the RESUME by and in itself is useless; if we have other invisible barriers holding us back.

“But Prince, what exactly is in your 'THE IRRESISTIBLE RESUME' course, plus why would I learn from you?” You may ask.

Well, here’s a sneak-peak of what we cover in the TIR course; and why I might be the right person to help you: Why "THE IRRESISTIBLE RESUME" course And Why Me.

We’ll talk more next week. But as for today, here are my BEST 5 materials for the past few months.

3 Unconventional Ways To Win In The Competitive Job-market

On Saturday last weekend, I went to watch the secondary school ball games--and specifically volleyball. Okay, I have never been a volleyball fun to boot! But now I am--officially.

And there I saw:
1)    A volleyball team that has  NEVER featured  # 2 at national level—let alone # 1—beat a team which has been the East & Central Africa volleyball champions for the last 2 consecutive years
2)    A LESS COMPETITIVE team crash National Volleyball giants using almost ONE player.
3)    One little-known volleyball player withstand 3 East & Central Africa champion players, and score consecutively.

So, what does all that has to do with today’s material? Well, the use of “Unconventional ways to Win.”
Today I want to show you 3 unconventional ways to win in the competitive job-market—even when you feel everyone else is better than you. Plus, why competition in the job-market is a good thing.

(Hint: It presents the greatest opportunity to you).

I will show you how and why lack of experience; ONE MORE degree; or even connections; aren’t the EXACT REAL barriers to competing in the job-market. Contrary to what most of us think!
Digging in…

3 Counterintuitive Ways To WIN—even if you are less talented/educated/experienced

High competition in the job-market is a good thing; because it means there is a demand for your skills; experience; and valuable knowledge. Otherwise there would be no competition!
So, let me show you one psychological truth about human beings; which you can build on to win unconventionally in the job-market—and any other field.

  • Psychological Truth # 1: By Nature We Are All LAZY
This doesn’t have a good ring to it; but it’s true. We are all lazy—even top performers as well as workaholics.
The only difference is the degree of laziness between top performers and the average performer. Plus, how each of the 2 responds to that fact; to get ahead.

(Hint: that’s why workaholics are not always the most performing guys on the face of the earth. To the contrary those who seems to work less—often times produce MORE)

So, how do you use the fact that we are all LAZY, to get ahead in the job-market? Well, by just being ‘LESS lazy’ than most people.

But let me clarify that preceding statement. Being ‘LESS lazy’ doesn’t mean “WORKING HARD” than everyone else. NO.

It means taking a little EXTRA time to “DO the HARD WORK”…then doing it in a smart way.
Notice that is different from ‘WORKING HARD’

Let me give you two SPECIFIC examples to illustrate that.

Take JOHN, for example:
He spends two weeks submitting his CV tirelessly to different random companies. By the end of two weeks, he has submitted 50 to 100 Cvs. This guy is really HARD WORKING. 5 to 10 RESUMES per day is no joke!

But let’s take BEN, who uses different approach:
Ben takes two days (Monday& Tuesday) to UNCOVER his potential employers; and their challenges. He then takes ONE HOUR that Tuesday evening; to UNCOVER his valuable skills; experience and knowledge that solves his target potential employers’ challenges.

In the third day; he takes about ONE HOUR to custom-tailor his CVs to SHOW how he can solve his target potential employer’s needs. In the next 3 days; he submits 10 of those CVs to SPECIFIC companies.

Between these two; who’s likely to get a response? Obviously, Ben.

Why? Because he did the real ‘HARD WORK’ upfront—which almost nobody does.

He did that by:
•    Uncovering his potential employer(s); plus, their needs.
•    Taking EXTRA time to uncover his PROFESSIONAL VALUE.
•    Crafting Custom-Tailored CV SHOWING he can solve his target employer’s challenges.

That’s doing the “HARD WORK’! But he did that in ONE WEEK; because he was systematic!

What about John? Well, he worked for TWO WEEKS—and he’s likely not going to get any response. He submitted his generic CV to RANDOM companies—without even knowing what value to offer; or their real challenges.

Ben does the ‘HARD WORK’—and does it SMARTLY. But John is HARD WORKING—and will get almost zero response. Can you see the difference?

The truth is, both BEN, and JOHN are lazy.

(That’s why JOHN can’t do the ‘HARD WORK’; and why BEN—in comparison--isn’t necessarily HARD WORKING)

But BEN is smart; and uses the fact that he and John are both lazy; to get ahead.
Notice here that, John represents MOST job-candidates. And BEN represents competent few job-candidates.

So, how can you use BEN’s approach; and give yourself a competitive edge in the job market...even if you have less experience/education or almost zero connection? How can you CAPITALIZE on the fact that we are all LAZY to get ahead?

Here are 3 ways you can do that and WIN unconventionally:

  • Learn What The Top 20% Do That The Bottom 80% Don’t.
When you observe carefully in any given company; you will realize that the best performers are not necessarily the HARD WORKING. They don’t ‘KILL THEMSELVES’ in the daily grid--pushing papers.

Yet they generate 80% of the results; in their department—leaving the rest 20% to be generated by the bottom 80% of their peers. This includes in any area of life—not just in workplace.
So, here’s what you need to do to start WINNING—even if you are average right now.

Take time and look into  what the top 20% do—whether it’s in applying for jobs; interviewing; or at work place.
Study them; because once you learn what makes them come at the top; you will be way far much better positioned to win—even if you are not the most experienced—than anyone else.

So, here are some of the things you will notice about these top 20%:
1)    Ironically, you will notice they do FEW THINGS (they are lazy--just like you and I). But those FEW SPECIFIC THINGS they do; generate 80% of the overall RESULTS.

Once they do those few things; they walk away! They don’t want to spend the whole day doing everything—which ironically, is what most people do; and hate at the same time.

2)    When given a task; they ask themselves one powerful question: “What are the EXACT RESULTS required from me in this task/project/role? Or what EXACT end RESULTS do I want out of this I am about to do?"

If they can’t identify the EXACT RESULTS for a role/task/ project delegated to them; they go back and ask the person who delegated.

Until they get to know the QUANTIFIED RESULTS expected; they never jump into anything!

3)    Once they grasp the real RESULTS expected; they do one more thing. Instead of jumping into the task; they take time to look at all the elements of the task/role/project.

Then they ask themselves ONE MORE powerful question: “What are the FEW KEY ELEMENTS in this task/project/role that I can focus on; to get the HIGHEST RESULTS?”
Notice it takes TIME and DISCIPLINE to do all this. That’s why the average person will not do it; and that’s your WINNING EDGE.

Most people “DO THINGS”. WINNERS want to get results for what they do!

If they can’t identify the few KEY ELEMENTS--that will make the MOST IMPACT-- they ask someone to help them identify. Yes, someone who’s better at it.

They don’t mind even if that assistance would cost them. They know the end RESULTS will be MORE VALUABLE in terms of:

•     LESS TIME employed to accomplish the task—meaning they will have more time on their part.
•     GREAT RESULTS acquired—which could lead to better pay, recognition; a new job; new office etc
New SKILL LEARNT—they know they can invest to learn something once and for all. And they will use those learnt skills; and techniques  for the remaining part of their career life

Overall they know the COST of that investment to learn; is worth the VALUE they will get over the course of their career
It would be ridiculous to expect such a person to fail—even if he is less talented!

And because most people AREN’T DISCIPLINED ENOUGH TO DO ALL THAT; the competition starts to drop DRASTICALLY--elevating this person even higher above the rest.

And that’s your first unconventional approach to WINNING in the competitive job-market.

Once you learn how the top 20% do stuff; don’t just start to do it scantly. It’s time to take it to the next level.

  • Focus On Doing What The Top 20% Do
We are all tempted to do MORE of everything. Because psychologically; we are inclined to think:

Doing More of Everything = More RESULTS.

Well, that turns out to be true only for a few stuff!
Often times LESS is MORE. This is a principle winners know and find every possible opportunity to apply it in almost everything they do.

Once you learn what the top 20% do—in your arena—focus on that and do it. Forget about what everybody else says you ‘SHOULD’ do—or thinks you ‘SHOULD BE doing.’

We often think:
“…What would they say if they discovered I paid someone to show me how…WRITE a WINNING-RESUME…INTERVIEW BETTER…LEARN how to ask INTELLIGENT questions…IMPROVE my SOCIAL SKILLS?”

And then we recoil and desist from doing what we should have done years ago.

Do you know why competent job-candidates win? …Because that is NOT what they think!

Here’s how and what they think:
“…How many opportunities will have I lost over the course of my career—and life--if I don’t learn how to: WRITE A COMPELLING CV and get interview-call? IMPROVE my SOCIALS SKILLS and interview better…master asking INTELLIGENT QUESTIONS in the interview-room to demonstrate competency; and WIN jobs?”

They know that’s going to cost them way more. And they do what almost nobody else does; to create their path—while everyone waits for things to fall in place.

So, on learning what the top 20% do; focus on doing that. Tackle the few MOST IMPACTFUL ELEMENTS—in your career--that will generate 80% of the overall results you want.

Here is what will change and the results you will get:
•    You’ll Enjoy More Time: You will have MORE time because you are not doing everything.

•    You’ll Enjoy the compounding Effect of More time: That extra time can be used to focus on even more IMPACTFUL work. Meaning even more time. And we all want more time to do other things—not just work.

•    You’ll Enjoy Great RESULTS: You are focused on a few elements that generate 80% RESULTS. You are not worried about being replaced by another job-candidate in your job-position. Plus, who doesn’t feel great about being a top performer?

•    You Enjoy More Opportunities: Being competent--or even demonstrating competency--comes with its own basket of rewards.

For instance:
Show your objective Value in your CV and you get an opportunity for a job interview.

Demonstrate competency in a job-interview and you get the job.

Show you are a high-performer and your boss gives you more opportunities to excel.

Show you can deliver and you get more challenging work that you will enjoy—instead of getting stuck pushing papers.

•    Intangible Benefits: Only those people who show they ‘get it’ get recognized. They get promotions; awards; respect; earn more etc. Plus, they get introduced to other smart people.

So, instead of WASTING your time and efforts; trying to please everyone--and doing everything--be smart. Focus on what the top 20% do; and just do that.
Notice how; it’s EASIER to IMPROVE if you focus on one specific area of your career at a time; than when you try to IMPROVE in EVERYTHING.

Try to IMPROVE in EVERYTHING—much like DOING EVERYTHING—and you will be overwhelmed before you even start. That’s the best way to NEVER IMPROVE or be better at anything.

Besides; isn’t it freeing to know that you don’t have to do EVERYTHING?

Trying to improve in everything sucks—much like trying to do everything. How long are you willing to keep on doing that?

Now, you know better. Do only what the top 20% do. And you will start beating even the most naturally talented; and those who are more experienced than you.

But, then; let me show you the last unconventional way to compete in the job-market. This is more powerful than anything else. People know it; but because we are all LAZY; less people will do it.
And those who do; WIN!

  • Automate All You Can Of What The Top 20% Do
How many of us know that automating some/most of the things we do—can free us a lot of time? How many of us know that automating most of the repetitive tasks makes us more effective; productive; and our work easier?

The answer to that is: Every one of us knows that.

So, why is it that we don’t do it; and yet we claim to “have no time”?
The answer is simple: We are lazy! And that is a good thing for anyone who wants to WIN unconventionally.

You see, taking time to AUTOMATE a repetitive task calls for “HARD WORK” at least initially. But after that; the benefits are long term.
Taking time to SYSTEMIZE something--instead of doing it randomly--takes “HIGH AMOUNT of EFFORTS and TIME”. And most people aren’t willing to EXPEND that initial efforts!

They would rather do it randomly—in which case they get confused; overwhelmed; and “lost” because they can’t figure-out the next step.

And when that happens; they either stop halfway and say…“I shall do this tomorrow”--which means they will never do it again; or they push through; only to get mediocre RESULTS.
Either way, they lose!

I have noticed that when you turn most tasks into EXACT science—by systematizing—it becomes easier to tackle.

Not only that; but you can always guarantee the outcome (Great Results). Plus, the task become less overwhelming because you have a step-by-step outlined method.

Let’s look at REAL LIFE example:
Interviewing:  Most average candidates think they can “WING interviews” and pass; until they get into the interview room and fumble through the first question. And ONLY then do they realize:

  • They DON’T KNOW what to say; or how to say it.
  • They DON’T KNOW what intelligent questions to ask or able uncover the “Behind the question” of what the interviewer is asking.
  • They DON’T KNOW the most IMPACTFUL ELEMENTS to focus on; to WIN the interview.

Same case applies to WRITING RESUMES. Average job-candidate picks a random format; and fills the paper with their educational and professional background stuff. Not exactly knowing:

  • The KEY ELEMENTS of a WINNING-RESUME
  • What to AMPLIFY to get HM’s attention
  • The EXACT language to use that shows you are a HIGH-VALUE candidate.

After RANDOMLY putting a sloppy CV together; they submit them to random companies—and wonder why no one calls back.

What if they took time to learn the EXACT systematic step-by-step process of either interviewing or RESUME-WRITING? What would change?

Here are the benefits:
•    They would have a SYSTEMATIC process for writing a WINNING-CV--making it easy to write.
•
They would know which KEY ELEMENTS to AMPLIFY in that CV and why—to get interview-call
•    They would get HIGH response rates after submitting their CV—instead of nothing

And my favorite…

•    Every time they want to apply for job in a different company; they would just pick the AUTOMATED proven-CV structure; and just change the details.

Meaning they will not feel overwhelmed looking at a blank paper; wondering where to start—or even what to put in there. It’s LEARN it ONCE; USE it FOREVER!
•    They would FORGET about CV-WRITING challenges--and focus on other areas of their career that matter
•    And the same would apply to their Interviewing game—not to mention getting jobs.

In learning and doing what the top 20% do, go a step further and:

  • AUTOMATE as much as you can about what they do.
  • DOCUMENT every step they follow to use it later—even 10 years to come.
  • SYSTEMIZE everything you can about their processes.
That’s a powerful way to create a predictable path in your career. Once you employ all those 3 Unconventional ways to WIN; you will:
  • Almost effortlessly WIN with LESS contribution on your part.
  • You will BEAT more educated and experienced peers in the job-market.
  • You will deliver BETTER RESULTS—without necessarily ‘killing yourself’
  • You will MASSIVELY and DRAMATICALLY see IMPROVEMENT in all aspect of  your career—and life
  • You will have comparatively MORE TIME to enjoy being LAZY than everyone else.

This is NOT EASY. This is ‘HARD WORK’.  But the RESULTS are long term—with less effort on your part.

And, because many of you are NOT going to AUTOMATE anything—even after reading this material; and still claiming you want to WIN—those few who will; will get ahead faster.

What To DO:
Here’s what I want you to do now.
1)    DON’T leave a comment.

2)    IDENTIFY a SPECIFIC IMPACTFUL area in your career you want to improve.

3)    USE the 3 unconventional Ways To WIN; to dramatically change that area.

One MORE Thing
Come back –after doing the above--and leave a comment telling me the chosen area; and SPECIFICALLY outlining how you are going to improve it (using the 3 unconventional techniques)

Don’t miss next Thursday’s material!

Great weekend.

How To Negotiate For a Higher Salary

One of the things that infuriates me--and makes me want to gouge my eye-balls out—is when I see greatly-titled articles in newspapers.

Articles with titles like: “How To Negotiate For Higher Salary in a Job Interview”.

You read most of those articles; only to realize it’s a bunch of fluff!
It turns out there is nothing in the article showing you how to exactly negotiate. Or the ACTIONABLE STEPS to take to become better at salary negotiation.

The writer of the article starts giving you world statistics about how job-candidates fail to negotiate their salary. Or a “salary-negotiation failure story” of another job-candidate--and then offers no solution at the end!

Newspaper article-writers give me a break!

Do I really need to know world’s statistics about how interviewees fail to negotiate their salaries?  Do I really need to read another salary-negotiation failure story?
What I need is solution. I want to know how to do it. Not another salary negotiation failure stories; or world stats on salary negotiation!

Most Of The Media Stuff Is Flaky

I have deep respect for a few newspaper article-writers who really give meaty advice in their articles.
But the truth is: most newspaper articles-writers give frippery advice on salary negotiation and even career. The question is why?

Why do they give a great promise on the article-title; and deliver no useful advice at all?

Two reasons:
  • They want you to read their articles
  • They don’t know how you should do it.
Most of the advice we feed from in the mainstream media about careers is flaky. Most of those articles are written to “HOOK” you. Not to “HELP” you!

See, it’s easy to tell our friends: “Dude, you need to go and ‘UPDATE’ your RESUME” to penetrate in the competitive job market”…simply because we heard that from the media.

Not knowing updating your RESUME is USELESS tactic. It doesn’t get you an interview-call.

By the way, if I ever tell you here on this my site…“You need to update your RESUME/CV”…simply UNSUBSCRIBE and NEVER read any of materials again! Because that’s a total crap!

I have always promised to be brutally honest with you. And always will.

I had decided to NOT write anything about salary negotiation--at least this year. But because of the crappy advice articles I have seen in newspapers surrounding this topic—which enraged me—I decided to give a meaty advice to my readers on this topic.

Today, I will demystify the myth of salary negotiation. Plus tell you the “blunt truth” that most newspaper and online article-writers will NEVER tell you—because they don’t know.

The Honest Truth About Salary Negotiation

Truth be told! Salary negotiation is not a matter of walking into the interview room; and saying HOW MUCH you WANT to be PAID!

If someone ever tell you it’s that easy; ask him how many times he has done it successfully--if at all he has ever done it in the first place!

If it were that easy; everyone would have done it. But as it turns out; very few people can and have actually negotiated their salary

Even people who have worked in companies for years; find it extremely hard to negotiate for a better pay!

Real talk people. If someone who has worked for his boss for several years find it extremely hard to ask for a salary raise; how would it be that simple for a “new hire”?

The hard truth: SALARY NEGOTIATION is NOT EASY.

And here’s why:
•    The GUILTY Feeling: There’s the feeling of guilty when you are asking for more; while others are getting less. And to overcome that barrier; you need beat your own psychological scripts.

•    It’s a SENSITIVE Topic: Ever raised money matters with even your friends? Money-matters is a sensitive topic.

You can’t raise this topic without meeting obstruction; and possibly enmity. That means; to do it successfully; you must be great at social skills

•    It’s a SKILL you need to learn: Salary negotiation is a skill you need to learn. Just like any other skill.

If you have NEVER negotiated before; or taken time to invest in learning how to do it; and practiced it: how could you expect to just walk in the negotiation-room and get that raise?

All that is not to say you can’t do it; and do it successfully. You can!

But the truth is: negotiating your salary is not as easy as asking for a glass of water.

The Psychology Behind Successful Salary Negotiation
Let’s dive into the game! And to roll the dice; here is a very simple question.
When you—my reader--get out to buy something; which products/services are you usually willing to pay the highest price?

The answer: The ones that EXACTLY MEET your needs; and have HIGH-VALUE in your eyes.

But here is where it gets even tricky about VALUE. That VALUE doesn’t have to be the HIGHEST compared to other product/services being sold at lower prices in the same market. It can just be PERCEIVED VALUE.

So, whether the value is PERCEIVED or REAL it’s VALUE in the eyes of the beholder!

For instance:
We walk into shopping malls; or supermarket and buy products at a higher price; while we can get the same product elsewhere within town at a lower price.

“But Prince, I go there because it’s a one-stop-shop. I get everything in one place!” you might rationalize.

But what about that one shirt; trouser or handbag you bought in that supermarket?
You walked in there; knowing exactly that you wanted only that one shirt/trouser/handbag. And you bought it at a higher price. Did you still need a one-stop shop in this case?

Why did you pay that much; and you very well knew you could get it somewhere else; at a lower price—same quality?

What is even more interesting is; you didn’t feel cheated!

Go at open market; and get someone to sell you the same shirt or handbag at that high price; and you will tell them off? Why? What has really changed?

The answer: NOTHING. Just your PERCEPTION about the seller; the product and the AIR the environment or the seller exudes!

That is the power of perception; and psychological positioning!

Here’s the underlying psychological principles:
  • People PAY MORE for REAL HIGH-VALUE product/service
  • People PAY MORE for what MEETS their EXACT needs
  • People PAY MORE for PERCEIVED HIGH-VALUE (the AIR around the product/service or the service provider)
Let’s uncover how you can use these basic psychological principles; in salary negotiations!

How To Negotiate For a Higher Salary
Negotiating your salary is a science—and probably an art too. Mostly it’s science because you have to employ psychological techniques. Plus social skills too!

Regardless of whom you are negotiating with or what you are negotiating for; you have to use the preceding 3 psychological principle.
When it comes to negotiating your salary with the hiring manager as a ‘new hire’; the salary negotiation is a “3-Step process.”

In fact, the REQUESTING part of the salary you want; is the last thing!

Simply said: 80% of the job is done way before REAL salary-negotiation starts!

Before I show you how; here is what I mean: A week or so ago; I was speaking with an audience of ambitious young guys about “Crafting An Irresistible Resume”

One of my great audiences asked me a question about "this lady who bombed a great job-opportunity during salary negotiation"
She asked me: “What should she have said when asked why she needed more salary?”

And it’s okay to ask that.  I get it! We all are concerned about what we are supposed to say. The exact words we are supposed to use to get that raise.

But the truth is: Those exact words are the least of your problems when it comes to salary negotiation.

I can give you the exact “word-for-word scripts” and “phrases” to use during salary negotiation. And you will still bomb it!

Why? Because the exact words and phrases to use during salary negotiation is the last thing you need to know. They contribute only a certain percentage to your WINNING!

In other words: If you DON’T do 80% of the work way before; and throughout your interviewing process—and interaction with the interviewer—you will NOT WIN the salary negotiation
Salary negotiation is a process not an ACT !

And if you do your prior job well throughout the process; you are almost guaranteed a great outcome. Get the ‘perfect word-for-word scripts’ correct. Fail to do the 80% prior job; and you’ll fail in the negotiation.

That’s why anyone who tells you… “You only need to use this MAGIC SCRIPTS and PHRASES in the negotiation room. And your boss will be enchanted and give you any salary request you make”…is lying.

He is not aware of what he’s talking about!

Today I want to show you what almost nobody shows you: The 3-Step process of salary negotiation which virtually guarantees great results..

The 3-Step Process To Successful Salary Negotiation
Here is the 3-Step process to successful salary negotiation. Get this right. Do it well. And you can virtually guarantee successful salary- negotiation--above the base-line salary.

Step # 1: Your RESUME/CV
Someone will read this first step and roll their eyes. And that’s okay because unless you have a depth understanding of the hiring manager’s psychology; it doesn’t mean much.

But for those who want to master the art of salary negotiation; stick with me. As for the eye-rollers; I am not here to help you. Close this window and leave this site!

Remember the 3 psychological principles as to why people PAY MORE? Your CV represents two of these:

To wit:

  • Are you meeting the EXACT needs of the Hiring Manager?
  • Can he see VALUE in your RESUME?
Craft a CV that clearly shows you are the exact candidate that meets the company needs. And your VALUE starts to shoot. The hiring manager would not let you go—if your CV shows you are what he’s looking for—simply because you asked more than the base-line salary.

Put together a CRAPPY CV with 'RESPONSIBILITIES' and 'CAREER OBJECTIVES' and you look like any other interviewee. Those kinds of CVs don’t differentiate you. You VALUE goes down.

And the HM can let you go over salary--because he can get another candidate--just like you. That’s why you should submit OPTIMIZED RESUME; rather than UPDATED RESUME.

Why First Layer Is Critical: When you show VALUE in your CV; and differentiate yourself from any other job-applicants; it shows you are a top-performer. And asking for a reasonable salary—above the standard salary—is expected by HM.

That very psychological preparation is more important than anything else.

Step # 2: Your Interviewing Prowess
The first step highly impacts the second step. The HM already knows you are a HIGH-VALUE candidate. And the BEST FIT for the company.

The interviewing process gives you the opportunity not only to AMPLIFY that value; but to demonstrate it too. This is where you use competency trigger phrases—throughout your interactions with the interviewer--that elevate your PERCEIVED VALUE.

These are powerful top-performer phrases like:

“…You know in my last job, I was well compensated; and I am certainly looking for a better fit in terms of compensation. But I am also looking to work with a company where I am evaluated based on VALUE. And not ‘the years I have worked’ or [insert whatever standard they use]”

Here’s what such subtle comment tells the interviewer/HM about you:
  • I am not desperate for this job. I am “sizing you up”. I first want to see whether we are a good fit for each other.
  • I was well compensated in my last job; and I’m certainly looking to work with a company that compensates me appropriately.
  • I want to be evaluated based on the value I bring on board. NOT on abstract standards like: ‘the years I have been around’ or whichever standard the company uses.
  • It’s possible I have other options. In case we are not fit for each other; I have other job offers in line.
  • I know my value; and I would like to be well rewarded based on what I am worth.
By the time you get to the salary requirements; the interviewer knows that you are going to be negotiating--and he’s psychologically prepared for that!

You have also elevated your PERCEIVED VALUE and demonstrated that you are a high-performer. The HM is not ready to lose you over ‘above base-line” salary request!

To-performers are RARE!

How you respond to interview questions either elevates or down-washes your PERCEIVED VALUE. And the interviewer starts to make judgment about where you will lie in the salary range.
Compare those top performer competency phrases I have shown you; with what most average candidates do—including revealing their previous salary.

They use phrases like:

“…My greatest weakness is that I work too hard. And please when you give me this offer I will do what it takes to succeed in this role”
Or…

“… I am a good team-player and when you give me this offer, I will do what it takes to make you proud; and achieve company goals”

What such comments tell the Interviewer/HM about you:
  • You are DESPERATE for the job
  • You were NOT WELL COMPENSATED in your last job---if at all you had one!
  • You DON’T KNOW what you are talking about. Only average and below-average candidates say things like: “…I will do what it takes”
  • You have NO VALUE at ALL--and if you do; you DON’T KNOW it
  • You are INCOMPETENT.
By the time you get to salary negotiations; the HM simply tells you there is NO SALARY FLEXIBILITY—because he knows you have no other job offer!

Hard Truth: Hiring Managers would want to take you on board with the lowest salary in your job cadre.

It’s nothing personal! It’s just a job—that’s just the way it is! And that’s one of their successes.
But if you demonstrate you are a HIGH-VALUE candidate; they would be glad to PAY you MORE!

Step #3: The Salary Negotiation Techniques And Scripts

This is the last process where you use highly powerful negotiation techniques like:
  • The 30-60-90 Technique: Use this to demonstrate what you intent to do with the company in terms of VALUE
  • The SALARY RANGE Technique: You need to research and understand the salary range. Bring that range on the negotiation table. NEVER negotiate from vacuum!
  • SOCIAL SKILLS techniques and use of Exact Negotiation Scripts: NEVER make salary negotiation adversarial.
(Hint: I show you how to use all the above negotiation techniques)

Do you notice how salary negotiation is a process that employs psychological techniques? And one that you need to practice; not just ‘wing it’

80% of the job is done way back before the negotiations start!

Also, notice how the EXACT SCRIPTS to use come last!

Here’s one of the scripts you can use to respond to why you deserve higher pay:

“…Based on the value I intend to bring into this company; as I demonstrated earlier on. And the successes I have demonstrated in my previous roles/ companies which I intent to bring into this role/company…I believe I am worth the higher-end in this range”
Notice I am not demanding anything. I am not even bringing up my financial needs on board.

I am skillfully saying what I believe I am worth; based on the VALUE (I already demonstrated that value) and SUCCESS I’m bringing to this company. NOT based on my financial NEEDS!

That’s how you WIN and negotiate for a higher salary!

But that’s’ just a nutshell; I take you in-depth of the negotiation techniques.
